Meet some of our new starters
Michael G: Head of Finance
Before joining the business, Michael spent 23 years with his previous company, starting in a junior finance role and progressing as the business grew from a UK-focused operation into one with a wider international footprint. He worked within a centralised finance team, supporting reporting and financial control.
For Michael, a strong finance function gives the business clear, reliable information. It helps department heads understand performance and see where attention is needed.
He enjoys the problem-solving side of finance, particularly reconciliation work and investigating why figures do not balance. He also values the people side of the role. If his personality had to be shown as a spreadsheet, the main tabs would be Honest and Trustworthy.
Kobbie B: Transport Co-ordinator
At school, Kobbie hoped to become a pilot, but his career path eventually led him into transport and logistics. His background includes a year of government national service, where he gained early experience in a structured logistics environment and developed an appreciation for organisation, responsibility and teamwork.
For Kobbie, a successful transport operation depends on staying calm under pressure, making clear decisions and taking the time to get things right. He believes that hesitation can cause problems, but so can rushing, so the key is to remain focused and act with care.
The best piece of work advice he has received is simple: don’t rush. In transport, where small details can have a big impact, that advice is especially relevant.
Martin Bruin: CAT C+E Day Driver
Martin always knew he wanted to be a lorry driver. His dad was a driver, and after spending summers around trucks and nights out on the road, transport was something he understood from an early age.
He has now worked in transport for over 25 years, starting in the warehouse before moving into Class 2 driving and then progressing to Class 1. That background has given him a practical understanding of the wider operation, not just the driving itself.
For Martin, good driving is about judgement, awareness and taking the time to do the job properly. A professional driver needs to be conscientious, safety-focused and willing to stop and check rather than make assumptions. As he puts it: “If you need to get out and have a look, get out and have a look.”
Zac R: Cat C+E driver
Zac’s route into transport started early, working weekends in haulage admin where he learned organisation, planning, and even how to use a fax machine.
Speaking to Zac, one thing that stood out was his frustration around the lack of awareness many road users have around HGVs, particularly poor judgement around space and the amount of mobile phone use drivers still see from the cab.
Despite that, Zac comes across very grounded and level-headed. Having previously worked in management roles, he prefers the straightforward nature of driving, focusing on what he can control and getting the job done properly.
When asked what makes a good transport operation, the answer was simple: experienced planners and good communication.
Reece P: CAT C driver LE8
Reece has worked across a range of customer-facing and operational roles, building strong people skills alongside hands-on industry experience that will serve him well in logistics.
When asked what drivers value most from a company, the answer was simple, organisation, realistic timings, and good communication.
He also spoke honestly about the job itself. Driving suits people who are comfortable working alone, but there is still plenty of banter and good people in the industry too.
Philip K: CAT C+E driver LE15
I became interested in driving as a kid when a friend’s dad drove a prison truck. Before moving into driving, I served in the Army as an infantry soldier, which taught me discipline, awareness, and responsibility.
A good day on the road for me is straightforward, quiet roads and being able to focus on the job. I enjoy the independence of being in the cab and working in my own space. Outside of work, I enjoy airsoft and building detailed truck models. My last project was an American Kenworth, and I’m a perfectionist, builds can take months to complete.
While I’m here, my goal is simple: maintain a flawless record and avoid any damage or incidents. My go-to cab snack is Peperami sticks.
Jason R: CAT C+E driver LE8
From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a lorry driver. It gives you a real sense of presence on the road. I spent 15 years delivering crisps, and over that time I developed a sweet tooth. Chocolate and breakfast biscuits are essentials on long runs, and if I’m delayed, I’ll usually end up in a garage picking up more.
If I could choose any job, I’d be transporting Formula 1 cars for a team, ideally heading somewhere like Barcelona. After a long shift, it’s simple, a cup of tea. I drink a lot of it. For anyone starting out, it’s a great lifestyle, but it can be tough if you’ve got a family.
Martin W: Cat C driver LE15
Martin has been around trucks and driving almost his whole life. Fascinated by cranes from the age of six, he spent years working in crane operations, tyre fitting, and part-time deliveries before joining CS Ellis. He’s delivered everything from a framed alligator at an auction to delicate cargo across the UK, always navigating tricky routes with skill and care.
Now driving four days a week, Martin appreciates the balance CS Ellis offers — the hands-on work, local knowledge, and reliable systems of a sizeable company, all while staying closer to home.
Mark J: Cat C Driver LE8
Mark’s journey to CS Ellis started long before he joined us. After nine years in the army, he transitioned into warehousing and logistics before rediscovering his love of driving two years ago. His experience ranges from food deliveries to challenging loads, including the infamous conservatory job that tested every inch of skill and patience.
Mark thrives on the variety of driving and the hands-on problem solving every route brings, combining discipline, focus, and reliability to ensure every delivery arrives safely and on time.
Evie M: Accounts Associate
Evie has always had a natural head for numbers. After studying A Levels in finance and accounting, she quickly progressed through roles in administration, recruitment, account management, operations and customer service management.
She particularly enjoyed operations because she was always learning, but today she’s focused on finding the right balance between work and family life. In finance, Evie describes herself as organised, reliable and detail focused, and she enjoys finding clever ways to save money just as much as balancing the numbers.
Outside work, life is busy with two young children, so coffee is essential to keep everything running smoothly. Fittingly, her superhero of choice is Wonder Woman.
Sam D: Cat C Driver
At school, he wanted to be a touring car racing driver. Life took a few different turns first, including roles as a scuba diving instructor, prison officer, warehouse supervisor and service engineerg. Now he’s started a brand-new chapter behind the wheel.
He enjoys anything mechanical on wheels, the freedom of being out on the road, and working independently. In the cab you’ll usually find snacks close by, beef jerky, a Coke Zero, and Planet Rock or an audiobook playing.
Starting a completely new career is a big step. He’s left a lot behind and is determined to make it work, perhaps with a bit of inspiration from his superhero of choice, Thor.
