keeping it green
Preparing for the future
Introducing our first electric truck – Keeping UK logistics green
At CS Ellis, we’ve always believed that progress doesn’t have to be loud. Every fleet decision we make is about long-term value, operational fit, and moving with purpose. Our recent addition of a fully electric DAF LF is no exception — not a grand gesture, but a practical, forward-looking step in a changing logistics landscape.
What’s interesting is that this isn’t entirely new ground. Electric trucks were seen on UK roads as early as 1912. Back then, they were ideal for short trips and city use — quiet, simple, and well suited to the job. Over a century later, we’ve come full circle. Advances in battery tech and vehicle design mean electric trucks are once again a serious, capable option.
That same thinking guided our decision. The LF is purpose-built for urban and regional deliveries — a natural fit for our work across the Midlands. Its range, regenerative braking, and intelligent energy use support efficient performance on short-haul routes.
We’ve also made a small update to the livery — adding a subtle electric bolt to our familiar stripes. Not a rebrand, just a quiet nod to what’s changed underneath. That’s how we like to do things: thoughtful and understated.
From an ESG perspective, this addition supports our wider goals around emissions, cleaner air, and responsible investment. Our decisions are guided by a whole-life emissions policy — considering environmental impact from production to end-of-life. Electric isn’t always the cleanest by default, but in the right context, it brings real benefits.
Driver experience was another key factor. Our team reported excellent visibility, a smooth and quiet ride, and easy manoeuvrability — especially valuable on multi-drop routes. Fewer moving parts also mean simpler maintenance.
The DAF LF Electric reflects the idea that good logistics evolves steadily — not all at once. We’re not rushing into an all-electric fleet, but we are preparing for the future. One route and one vehicle at a time.
“This isn’t about chasing headlines, it’s about smart, sustainable decisions that serve our customers and communities. Logistics is evolving — and so are we.”
Steve Gray, Managing Director.
“The DAF LF ticked all the right boxes — not just because it’s electric, but because it works. We’re deploying the new 19-tonne electric trucks to assess how they perform alongside our diesel fleet. It’s well-built, driver-friendly, and fits into the way we operate. That’s what matters.”
